Anne-Maria Hoelscher is one of the most renowned accordionists of her generation. Her main emphasis is on chamber, ensemble and orchestral music. In addition, she regularly performs solo recitals with a broad range of repertoire spanning the last five centuries. Both as soloist and chamber musician, Anne-Maria Hoelscher has been invited to perform at the Schwetzinger Festspiele, the Wittener Tagen für Neue Kammermusik, the Europäisches Musikfest Stuttgart, the Eclat-Festival Stuttgart, the Lucerne Festival, the Internationale Ferienkurse Darmstadt, the Tage für Neue Musik Weingarten, Ultraschall Berlin und Transit Leuven. She is in high demand as a guest among leading ensembles for contemporary music such as KlangForum Heidelberg, Ensemble Aventure Freiburg, ascolta Stuttgart, Collegium Novum Zürich etc. as well as among various orchestras such as SWR Radio Symphonie Orchestra Stuttgart, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Bochumer Symphoniker etc. Anne-Maria Hoelscher receives inspiring artistic impulses through her collaboration with conductors like Walter Nußbaum, Peter Rundel, Peter Eötvös, Roland Kluttig, Sylvain Cambreling, Cornelius Meister and composers like Márton Illés, Fabien Lévy, Johannes Kalitzke, Marta Gentilucci, Sarah Nemtsov, Klaus Huber, Nikolaus Brass, Marco Stroppa, Oliver Schneller, Marc Andre, Matthias Pintscher. Numerous world premieres for accordion solo and different instrumentations with accordion have resulted from such collaborations. The 2025/2026 season includes world premieres of Daniel Ott’s accordion solo in his monumental sonic happening “Draussen-drinnen” for the Lucerne Festival (Switzerland) and Enno Poppe’s duo “Faden” for accordion and piano together with Florian Hoelscher (piano) at the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik (Germany) as well as a recidency at Villa Massimo in Rome. Numerous radio and CD recordings document her artistic work. Her latest CD, released on organum classics, features sonatas and variations by Joseph Haydn. Born in Weimar (Germany), Anne-Maria Hoelscher began playing the accordion at the age of seven. After preliminary instructions with Claudia Buder (The Liszt School of Music Weimar) at the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere Weimar, she studied with Hugo Noth at the Trossingen University of Music and with Joseph Macerollo at the University of Toronto. During her studies, Anne-Maria Hoelscher was supported by scholarships from the Kulturstiftung der Deutschen Bank, the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). Anne-Maria Hoelscher is a professor for accordion and chamber music at the Lucerne School of Music (Lucerne University of Applied Science and Arts). This position allows her to share her instrumental and musical knowledge as well as her excitement about the versatility of her instrument with young accordionists. She also regularly serves on competition juries and gives master classes throughout Europe.
